BUILDING ON EXCELLENCE

Honoring the Past, Ensuring the Future
The tradition of Country Day has always been to do whatever is necessary to create a stronger, better place, where generations of children are prepared for a lifetime of intellectual exploration, personal growth, and social responsibility.
With the beginning of the 21st century, Country Day leaders began to envision how updated campus facilities would meet the growing needs of 21st century learners. Modernization was crucial. Cramped classrooms, a crumbling infrastructure, jumbled wires like roadblocks to the information superhighway had to go. The campus had not had a ‘face-lift' in nearly 40 years, with bungalows still in use that were originally built when the school moved to our current site in 1961.
The quest for more space, for progressive space spawned a bold journey of re-imagining and growth. After much thoughtful discourse a strategic plan, campus master plan, and fundraising plan were developed to support the bricks and mortar projects and secure the future by building the endowment.
The results? Revolutionary. Transformative. Innovative.
In 2003 the Building on Excellence campaign was born to give our tradition space to grow, to live, to evolve. June 2005 brought the first step of significant campus improvements when ground was broken for the new Middle School.
Through the generosity parents, grandparents, and friends of the school, the Building on Excellence campaign has raised more than $16 million. Combined with tax exempt bond financing, a total of $40 million has been invested in Country Day’s 24-acre campus to ensure that students and teachers have the best possible environment for teaching and learning.
We invite everyone to support the most exciting, ambitious campaign in the history of Country Day – Building on Excellence. Your support is critical to keeping the pendulum of growth, progress, and success swinging at the measured pace that is La Jolla Country Day School.
