Speaker Series: Luis Prieto-Portar

Faculty, staff and parents are welcome to attend our next Speaker Series event with Luis Prieto-Portar, who developed one of the first GIS systems for the US Navy; he invented the GPS after he was able to measure the wobble in the earth’s rotation as a research associate while at Princeton in 1976. No RSVP is required.

Dr. Prieto holds patents for environmental engineering processes, and more recently, in modular housing systems. He is currently interested in developing high-technology housing modules, and in geotechnical in-situ testing.

Dr. Luis Prieto-Portar earned his first degrees in Honours Physics (B.S. University of Montreal), and Honours Mathematics (M.A. Cambridge University and Dartmouth). These were followed by M.S., M.A. and Ph.D. at Princeton in water resources, structures and geotechnical engineering, respectively.
