PA Meeting Summary, September 8

Welcome to the first Parents Association meeting summary. The meeting kicked off with a welcome by the new Parents Association President Jennifer Pirigyi. 

Head of School Dr. Gary Krahn introduced a number of key staff changes:
  • Joscan Leyva – Head of Security
  • Inez Odem – Assistant Head of School for Enrollment Management and Outreach
  • Susie Nordenger – Assistant Head of School for Development

New President of the Board of Trustees Mike Dee outlined the committees and introduced committee chairs and the members of the Board who were present.
 
Mrs. Pirigyi introduced the new members of the Parents Association Board. She explained the formation of the Leadership Council consisting of the chairs of Blue Bash, the Booster Club, WeCare, CD Arts Alliance, Torrey Fest, Faculty/Staff Appreciation, the Heritage Project and the Grade Level Coordinators. 
 
Additional items discussed:
 
Torrey Exchange: A parent portal site open only to the LJCDS community, where parents, faculty and staff can buy or sell goods, seek recommendations or organize carpools or activities. This can be found under "resources" in the portal. 
 
Volunteers: Parents who would like to get involved should contact Rebecca Twomey, PA vice president, and coordinator for parent volunteers.
 
WeCare Screening: LJCDS will host the WeCare screening of the movie SCREENAGERS: Growing Up in the Digital Age on September 12, 7 p.m. A free showing to the LJCDS community will be on Tuesday, September 13, 7 p.m. LJCDS students will see the movie during the school day.
 
Torrey Fest: A long standing, back-to-school tradition at LJCDS returns to a picnic format after school on Friday, September 23, 4-6:30 p.m. It’s a wonderful opportunity to meet and connect with students, parents, faculty and staff. We look forward to seeing you there! RSVP today!
 
Presidential Inauguration trip to Washington, DC: Upper School history teacher Jonathan Shulman spoke about the January 17-22 trip. Grades 9-12 are invited to apply. The deadline for applications is September 15.
