Our Torrey athletes are making headlines. We’re proud to share several accomplishments featuring the Torrey football team; quarterback Braxton Burmeister ’17; volleyball standouts Cassidy Rooke ’14, Arela Williams ’14 and Devon Peterkin ’16; and cross country runners Julius Diehr ’15 and Natalia LaSpada ’15.
Former Country Day volleyball standout Cassidy Rooke ’14 eclipsed 1,000 career digs in leading the University of Denver to a four-set victory over the University of Omaha. Rook is the 15th player in Denver history to reach the dig mark. Read the complete story.
Cassidy’s former Lady Torrey teammate, Arela Williams ’14, led the McKendree University volleyball program with 135 kills, giving her the third-highest kill total in the Great Lakes Valley Conference on September 22. Then on September 29, Williams ’15 led the Great Lakes Valley Conference in kills with 175 and the Bearcats in digs with 151. Read more.
Former LJCDS and current University of Washington distance runner Julius Diehr ’15 has made the Husky’s varsity top seven and is competing well in the Pac12 as a redshirt freshman. Diehr finished 29th in last weekend’s loaded field helping UW to a third-place finish behind Oregon and Colorado State and just ahead of Washington State. Read more about the meet here.
Natalia LaSpada ’15 is Johns Hopkins University’s number two runner. She recently helped the Blue Jays take first place at the Iona Meet of Champions. Hopkins is ranked #3 in NCAA Division III. Read the complete story here.
