Inspired by the San Diego Zoo's 100th anniversary, MOPA's 11th Annual Youth Exhibition focused on the theme of animals. Students from K-12 in San Diego County and Tijuana were encouraged to consider the significance of animals in their lives and in the world, and submit photographic or video art for a chance to be part of the exhibition.

“This was our first year entering the MOPA’s student exhibition, and I was thrilled to have almost half of our entries selected for this year’s show,” said Bruce Fayman, photography and graphic design teacher. I think the photos selected present a nice range of work from abstract pieces to photos that investigate the movement and power of animals. I’m proud that the hard work of these students was recognized by MOPA.”

An opening reception will take place at MOPA on October 14 and photos will be displayed at MOPA (starting October 8), the Central Library, Teen Center (opening Thursday, October 13) and the Logan Heights Library, Art Gallery (opening October 18) through Sunday, February 5, 2017.

Since 2006, MOPA has held an annual juried exhibition showcasing the photographic talents of San Diego youth. Every year, students are encouraged to submit work that responds visually to a particular theme. The winning entries are selected for their quality, originality, theme and artistic interpretation of that year's topic. See the winning photos here. Click here to see previous exhibitions.
