History of Excellence

La Jolla Country Day School (LJCDS) has a rich tradition of athletic excellence on the field, court and in the pool. State-of-the-art facilities combined with a passionate and dedicated coaching staff and student participation rates that are among California’s highest have led the Torreys to unparalleled success over the last decade.
The athletic department proudly competes in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), San Diego Section. For most sports, LJCDS competes in the Coastal League of the Coastal Conference.

Torrey Athletics by the Numbers

  • LJCDS teams won 11 championships in 2014–2015 in the sports of men’s cross country, men’s tennis, women’s tennis, women’s basketball, men’s water polo, football, softball and baseball 
  • LJCDS teams won 11 championships in 2013–2014 in the sports of men’s cross country, men’s tennis, women’s tennis, men’s golf, men’s track and field, women’s basketball, men’s water polo and women’s volleyball
  • Torrey teams captured 11 championships in 2012–2013 in baseball, women’s basketball, men’s cross country, men’s golf, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and men’s swimming
  • LJCDS teams won 112 championships (67 league, 32 CIF, 8 regional, 5 state) in the past 10 years (2005-06 to 2014-15)
  • LJCDS teams won 166 championships since the school’s first athletic championship in 1965–1966: the CIF 3A Men’s Tennis Championship
  • Sixty-nine LJCDS graduates will compete in 14 sports at 54 colleges and universities around the nation in 2015–2016
  • 22 members of the Class of 2015 will play sports in college
