Just a mile down Genesee Avenue is a new rival to the LJCDS varsity football team, the University City High School (UCHS) Centurions. September 16 marked the inaugural “Battle for the Golden Triangle” game with the Torreys winning 51-12.
Brought together by Coach Tyler Hales and UCHS Coach Ryan Price, the two schools competed for the first time. “Given that we are so close on Genesee and the only two high schools located in the Golden Triangle, we thought making a trophy and game title with this idea in mind would be fun,” said Coach Hales. The winning school will keep the trophy for the year.
They ran into trouble getting a trophy made, but used a music triangle from the Middle School band teacher Liesl Hanson and Coach Carmy Cesaire painted it gold. Coach Hales is discussing the possibility of creating a bigger trophy through the innovation lab.
