Annual Thanksgiving Alumni Athletic Events

Over the Thanksgiving break, La Jolla Country Day School welcomed back several alumni teams for the annual alumni athletic events, or as coach Kevin Reaume calls it, “the greatest event in Torreyland!”

On Thanksgiving morning a group of cross country alumni along with a handful of current Torreys gathered to take a lap around the home course, the UC San Diego eucalyptus grove.

“This year there were a number of recent graduates as well as runners from my first few years as a coach. They never ran together or knew each other, yet they share a distinct set of Country Day experiences. It’s humbling to see so many former runners together, but mostly it’s a lot of fun,” shares coach Scott Sanders.

The following morning was filled with more excitement as football and soccer alumni (along with a handful of parents) returned to campus for the beloved “old guys vs. young guys” games. The scene was full of old friends reconnecting, new friendships forming and smiles all around.

Varsity football coach Tyler Hales reflects on the event, “I am so proud of the men that our former players have become, and I love seeing them come back as passionate and enthusiastic for Torrey football as they were when they left. They all share the bond of Torrey pride, and they all still bleed blue. I enjoy hearing them reminisce and share their personal stories of their similar experiences back when they suited up.”

We always love having alumni back on campus for fun traditions such as these and hope they continue to grow in the years to come.

Once a Torrey, always a Torrey!
