Southern California Regional Champions

By Communications
Congratulations to our varsity football team who defeated El Monte Arroyo High School 63-42 on Saturday, December 10 to become the Division 5A Southern California Regional Champions. This is the first time that LJCDS has been part of a state football postseason game.

A record number of fans in attendance witnessed one of the highest scoring games in San Diego history as the Torreys and Knights exchanged scores all game. Two Torrey interceptions for touchdowns (by seniors Brennan Goring and Casey Mariucci) proved to be the difference in the game as the boys in blue were able to outlast Arroyo. The county’s leading offense put up nearly 600 total yards (341 passing, 242 rushing) and QB Braxton Burmeister (named 1st Team All-CIF) took over two more CIF records with his 4,335 passing yards and 304 completions this season. Additionally, our Torrey Raid offense, led by Offensive Coordinator Coach Carmy Cesaire, has produced 686 points and 6,915 total yards, which are both second most in a single season in CIF-SDS history. The team only needs 28 points and 26 yards to finish the most impressive offensive season in our county’s history!

The Torreys will compete for the state title this Saturday, December 17 against McClymonds High School from Oakland. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. at LJCDS.
