Miles Himmel ’10 was recently featured in the Union Tribune for his leadership in creating The Larry Himmel Neighborhood Foundation, a foundation for which is named in honor of his father, Larry. The foundation offers support and resources to organizations and individuals in the spirit of Larry’s connection with the communities and people of San Diego.
Below is an excerpt from the Union Tribune on January 3, 2017.
For 35 years, KFMB-TV reporter Larry Himmel was a local TV icon who specialized in telling the human and often humorous stories of ordinary San Diegans. Two years after his death, his son is now leading a foundation in his father’s name that aims to help ordinary San Diegans in need.
“We operate on the philosophy of ‘what would Larry do’,” said Miles Himmel, 24, of Ocean Beach. “Many of the people who knew my Dad for his work on television are from an older generation. My hope is that someday people may say ‘I didn’t know your dad was from his work but I do know his foundation.’ ”
