Torrey Football Makes History

The football team dominates, breaking records to secure the CIF championship.
Congratulations to Torrey Football for clinching the San Diego Division 3 CIF championship with an impressive record-breaking performance. Scoring a remarkable 73 points, a new high for points in a championship game, they secured a resounding 73-34 victory over Grossmont to claim the title.

As the football season kicked off, the Torreys faced the challenge of competing in Division 3, known for its large schools and rosters. Undeterred, the team, led by head coach Tyler Hales and senior captains Madden Craig, Gianno Kassab, Jaden Mangini, and Kyle Minasian, embraced the challenge and got to work.

The playoff run began with a 36-8 victory over Morse. Quarterback Jaden Mangini ’24 ran for two touchdowns and threw two more in the lopsided victory. In the quarterfinals, the Torreys traveled to West Hills and came home with another dominant win, 35-7 over the Wolf Pack. Wide receiver Quentin Cesaire ’26 caught two touchdown passes in the victory. Next up was a trip to Fallbrook for the semifinals. In a highly competitive game, the Torreys escaped with a 39-38 win in overtime. Linebacker Gianno Kassab ’24 made the key tackle to stop a 2-point conversion on the last play of the game to seal the win.

The culmination of their hard work unfolded on a picturesque November Saturday afternoon at Southwestern College. The Torreys delivered an outstanding offensive performance, setting a record with 73 points in the final. Mangini accounted for all ten touchdowns, throwing for six and running for four. Madden Craig ’24 was another offensive star with 194 yards receiving and three touchdowns, and linebackers Chris Hughes ’24 and Isaac Grassi ’25 led the way on defense.

Torrey Football’s journey to the CIF championship stands as a testament to their determination, skill and teamwork. Congratulations to the players, coaches and the entire football community on this remarkable achievement!
