Middle School Applicants

Applying to the Middle School (Grades 5–8)

As the bridge between the Lower and Upper Schools, the Middle School is where students experience important transitions. By choosing La Jolla Country Day School (LJCDS), you have found a place that will challenge your child within a nurturing environment to develop independence of thought, habit and mind. If you would like more information or would like to schedule a tour or optional visit day, please click here.

Middle School Application Process

The priority application deadline is February 1, 2020 for the 2020-2021 school year.

For families exploring the admission process for students applying to grades 5 – 12 for the fall of 2020, we would be delighted to schedule an exploratory conversation with a parent or guardian to discuss the availability of positions in select grade levels.

Considerations for Admission

  • Strong character
  • Academic readiness or qualifications to successfully participate in and meet the academic standards of the school's ambitious college preparatory program
  • Exceptional talent in the arts and/or athletics
  • Maturity
  • Affiliation with the school—special consideration for available space is given to qualified children of faculty/staff/administration, siblings of current students, and children of alumni who fit within the range of students best served by LJCDS
  • Diversity and gender balance
  • Appropriateness of match between family and the school including a parental commitment to establish a supportive partnership with the LJCDS community

Optional Visit Day

If you have already completed an inquiry but would like your child to attend an optional visit day, please contact Emilyn Edquilang at eedquilang@ljcds.org or Jessica Biglin at jbiglin@ljcds.org.

Please note that the “optional” visit day is an opportunity for students looking at Grades 1–11 who are uncertain if they want to engage in the official admission process to visit our campus.

All applicants to Grades 1–11 will be required to participate in an official visit day which will be available during January and February 2019. The optional visit day is not in lieu of the official visit day.
