Upper School Applicants

Applying to the Upper School (Grades 9–11)

As a college preparatory institution, La Jolla Country Day School (LJCDS) strives for academic excellence. It is our goal to provide students with the necessary skills and resources to excel academically and personally at the college level and beyond. Our rigorous academic community is dedicated to fostering critical, creative and socially conscious thinkers. If you would like more information or would like to schedule a tour or optional visit day, please click here.

Considerations for Admission

  • Strong character
  • Academic readiness or qualifications to successfully participate in and meet the academic standards of the school's ambitious college preparatory program
  • Exceptional talent in the arts and/or athletics
  • Maturity
  • LJCDS affiliation; special consideration for available space is given to qualified children of faculty/staff/administration, siblings of current students and children of alumni
  • Diversity (race, ethnic, gender, socioeconomic) balance
  • Appropriateness of match between family and the school, including parental commitment to establish a supportive partnership with the LJCDS community

Upper School Application Process

The priority application deadline is February 1, 2020, for the 2020-2021 school year.

For families exploring the admission process for students applying to Grades 5 – 12 for the fall of 2020, we would be delighted to schedule an exploratory conversation with a parent or guardian to discuss the availability of positions in select grade levels.

LJCDS is sometimes able to accept new students into Grades 10 & 11. In order to determine if an applicant is qualified to handle the demands of our academic program, we require a process known as a "pre-screen." A pre-screen involves submitting the following forms:
  • Completion of online inquiry form
