PARTIAL INTERSECTION CLOSURES AND LANE REDUCTIONS

Partial Intersection Closures at Genesee Avenue and La Jolla Village Drive
Intermittent partial closures are currently in place along Genesee Avenue in support of Trolley bridge construction. Crews are installing pre-cast girders, which are large beams used to support the Trolley bridge. The girders will be placed on top of the columns to build the viaduct, which is the bridge structure that will carry the Trolley along its route. Crews have placed girders in five intersections along Genesee Avenue; this will be the sixth installation of girders in a series of seven intersections.

The following partial closures will be intermittent at the intersection of Genesee Avenue and La Jolla Village Drive:

Weekdays from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day:
  • Two lanes open on southbound Genesee Avenue.
  • Two lanes open on northbound Genesee Avenue.
  • Through lanes at La Jolla Village Drive will be closed at Genesee Avenue. Right turns from La Jolla Village Drive to Genesee Avenue will be maintained.
  • View the detour map for this closure.
Weeknights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.:
  • Closure of southbound Genesee Avenue lanes and through lanes at the La Jolla Village Drive intersection.
  • One lane open on northbound Genesee Avenue.
  • View the detour map for this closure.
Motorists should plan to take alternate routes to avoid traffic congestion, as delays are expected during these closures.

Due to the complexity of the work, closures can be postponed at any time without notice. View closure updates at ShiftSanDiego.com, Facebook.com/MidCoastTrolley, or Twitter.com/MidCoastTrolley.

Genesee Avenue and the nearby areas will be surrounded by construction as SANDAG moves forward with transportation improvement projects, which includes the following projects that directly affect La Jolla Country Day School (ljcds) traffic.

  1. The Mid-Coast Corridor project includes the Mid-Coast Trolley, which will extend rail service from downtown to University City. Service date is anticipated to begin in 2021.

Thank you in advance for your patience over the next months and years as we continue to grow the surrounding area and make improvements.
