We proudly congratulate the 103 graduates of the class of 2019.
Bravo to the 103 graduates of the class of 2019 who were honored during the 55th La Jolla Country Day School Commencement ceremony on Friday, May 24 in the Amphitheater. This year’s class contributed an amazing 13,412 hours of community service both locally and around the globe. Altogether, they received 480 college acceptances and will embark to 68 different colleges and universities, including one internationally. This year marks the 52nd lifer class, and we are proud to recognize 18 lifers from the class of 2019. Our lifers have called LJCDS home for 13 or more consecutive years.
Head of School Gary Krahn, Ph.D., welcomed the crowd and charged the graduates to “continue to be a force for good in the world.” There wasn’t a dry eye in the house after Upper School English and history educator Robin Stewart delivered the commencement address. She expressed her love for the students and encouraged them to “carry home with you” as they embark “on the threshold of change.” The Madrigal singers performed an emotional rendition of “Home” by Phillip Phillips.
Three awards were presented during commencement. Newland Zhang earned the Trustees’ Award, presented by Board of Trustees President Chris Richey, for achieving the highest cumulative grade point average of the graduating class. Rohan Jha earned the Head of School Award, presented by Dr. Krahn, for achieving the second highest cumulative grade point average. Head of Upper School Joseph Cox presented the Faculty Prize to Raquel Ramirez and Ryan Lamkin. This prize is awarded to two seniors who, through effort, character, scholarship, arts and athletics, have best demonstrated the ideas and spirit of La Jolla Country Day School.
After Dr. Krahn and Mr. Richey presented diplomas, the class of 2019 led the audience in singing the alma mater and proceeded to the Upper School quad to participate in the tradition of ringing the bell.
Congratulations and good luck on your next adventure!
