LJCDS Magazine Earns Three Awards

By Tiffany Truong, director of marketing and communications
1926 awarded by CASE and InspirED.
1926, La Jolla Country Day School’s alumni magazine, earned three awards: gold for independent school magazine (issues: spring 2020, winter 2019) in the 2021 CASE District VII Awards of Excellence; gold for magazine feature article design (winter 2019) by 2020 InspirED School Marketers Brilliance Awards; bronze for independent school printed magazine 2020 InspirED School Marketers Brilliance Awards (winter 2019).

Of the magazine, the judges of the Brilliance Awards share, “The bandwidth of this school is what strikes me about this piece. From abstract art to TedTalks, to MLB, to cybersecurity, to broadway; the scope of these stories is impressive, but I love the way they spell out the LJCDS influences within the copy. Cover art seals it. Absolutely gorgeous design and photography. A rich variety of content. Not flashy but very impressive.”

Of the winter 2019 feature, “Uninhibited and Abstract” featuring Ali Silverstein ’98, the judges of the Brilliance Awards share, “A knockout! The designer wisely put the artwork front and center; the text sections are visually interesting in their own right without competing for attention. It's a long article, but it never drags—each page is inviting in its own way while working together as a harmonious whole. The creativity in the design is befitting of the article's talented subject.”

The magazine has won silver and bronze awards from CASE and InspirED School Marketers in the past several years, but this is LJCDS’ first two gold awards.
