  • Soccer - Varsity Men's

    2015 - 2016
    Head Coach: Jerry Fleischhacker

The 2016-17 Boys’ Varsity Soccer team is looking forward to rebounding from a rebuilding season and resume the long tradition of Torrey soccer success on and off the field. After graduating most of the starters from the Division 3 CIF Finalist 2014-15 team, Torreys squad included a number of Freshmen and Sophomores last year.  However, although still very young, with a year of experience and several key additions, things are looking up for the upcoming season.  Junior Zach Engfelt will spearhead the defense and will serve as captain in his third season as a starter.  Last year Zach led the team with eight goals.  Another junior defender in his third varsity year, Jared Mindel, has shown a great deal of progress and maturity.  Sophomore goalkeeper, Tommy Glatt, started several games last year and showed great deal of promise.  Another Sophomore, Justin Pirigyi, also saw action in goal last year, and provides Torreys with excellent depth in this key position.  Skilled playmaker Sophomore Jesus Labra (4 goals) and strong forward Grant Miler (3 goals) also return as starters.  This group of returning players will be strengthened by several top top players.  Much of the scoring should come from Senior Stephan May, who tallied 9 goals during the 2014-15 season, and returns to the team after a year hiatus.  Sophomore Rodrigo Duran from Columbia is a standout midfielder and defender, and another Sohomore, Mathias Buckingham, who returned to LJCDS after a year in Atlanta, should be another strong playmaker in midfield.
