Advisory and Peer Leader

Advisory Program

The Upper School boasts a vibrant, robust advisory program that enhances the academic program by fostering a sense of community within the advisory group and the school. The student’s relationship with the advisor and the advisory group is cultivated throughout the student’s four years of high school.

Advisory is an opportunity for students to reflect upon, discuss, and plan for their own intellectual exploration, personal growth, and social responsibility within a guided, cooperative environment. Advisory is a valuable part of the LJCDS experience as it helps students navigate their world as global citizens and future leaders.

Peer Leader Program

Our lauded Peer Leader Program assists Grade 9 students as they make their transition to Upper School. Beginning in the spring, rising 12th graders complete a rigorous application and screening process designed to identify the strongest student leaders in the class. Elected peer leaders join a ninth-grade advisory for the entire year to offer foundational support and plan group activities, all while improving hands-on leadership skills in the older students. Peer leaders meet once per week to plan advisory activities and debrief on their experiences.
