Torrey Athletes in the News

By Director of Athletics and Physical Education Jeff Hutzler
Congratulations to the Varsity Football team for advancing to the CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) Championship game for the second time in three years. This Division IV playoff run has been especially impressive considering the team has defeated schools with enrollments of more than 2,000 students along the way.

In a hard fought game two hours away in the desert, the Torreys (10-3) came back from a 14-0 deficit to defeat the Southwest Eagles (9-3) 21-14. Come join us as the team takes on #3 seed Santana High School (8-4) this Friday, December 2, at 3 p.m. at Southwestern College in Chula Vista. Purchase your championship game tickets here. Santana has a balanced offensive attack with a physical defense, so it will be a well-earned victory on Friday afternoon. Preview of Championship game vs. Santana.

Additionally, more CIF San Diego records fell on Friday night after senior captain WR/LB and four-year starter Brennan Goring ’17 caught nine passes for 87 yards. Brennan is now San Diego’s all-time leading receiver in career receptions with 209 and career receiving yards with 2,990; next week he could become San Diego’s first 3,000 yard receiver! We are all so proud of Brennan for this impressive accomplishment, and as good of a football player as he is, Brennan is an even better young man.
