Join Us at Blue Bash!

By Communications
Tracy Brymer P’15 '18 and Belinda Donner P’19 ’22, volunteer co-chairs of this year’s Blue Bash, sat down with Jennifer Fogarty, assistant director of marketing and communications, to share with us what to look forward to on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at the Belly Up. Blue Bash is LJCDS’ annual fundraiser that supports financial assistance, professional development, Parents Association activities and upcoming school projects.

Jennifer Fogarty: Can you give us a preview of Blue Bash?
Tracy Brymer: The evening will begin with a cocktail hour and special grab bags for purchase. Food will be catered by Pacific Coast Grill and consist of passed hors d’oeuvres throughout the evening, food stations, dessert bar and late night snack. After the live auction with local radio host, comedian and professional auctioneer Russ T Nailz, the Los Angeles cover band, The Boogie Knights, will perform (bring your dancing shoes) and there will be a lounge area for those who wish to relax without music. The dress is concert casual.

How is this year’s Blue Bash different from previous years?
Belinda Donner: The Belly Up is a casual, comfortable setting to mingle and bring parents together. We have put a big focus on bringing the community together and simplifying the event.
Tracy Brymer: We have decided to go digital with our invites and not create a program. This year, the silent auction is online only (with the exception of a few super silent items), which will free parents from bidding on their phones at the event and allow everyone to relax and have a good time. There will still be a live auction and paddle raise as in year’s past, and we hope everyone comes out to show their support.

Why the change? Why the Belly Up and not a sit-down dinner at a hotel?
Belinda Donner: We would like to provide an environment that is more casual and easier to connect with parents/guardians and meet new families. The Belly Up is an iconic North County venue and has a big draw. Several school fundraisers have been held there successfully and the venue goes hand-in-hand with our goal of creating a fun, more low key evening while raising funds for the school. Because the silent auction will be online only and dinner will not be seated, the venue encourages freedom to mingle and converse.

The silent auction items will be online, when can we expect a preview?
Tracy Brymer: Silent auction items will be available for preview on April 20 at the Parents Association meeting in Community Hall at 8 a.m. Online bidding begins April 27 and goes through May 5 (dates subject to change).

What kind of both live and online auction items can we anticipate?
Belinda Donner: Custom artwork from a renowned artist, Michael Franti sold-out concert tickets, transcendental meditation course, six bedroom home in Oahu, Hawaii, a New York City trip, several shadowing experiences for students, golf experiences, Deer Valley Montage trip, music festival passes and more.

What has the planning process been like?
Tracy Brymer: The process has been incredible. We have about 30 volunteers who meet weekly to brainstorm, divide and conquer. We are so grateful for everyone who has worked with us, donated and supported to help make this year’s Blue Bash a huge success.
Belinda Donner: The best part of planning is spending more time on campus and getting to know our wonderful parents and staff.  As co-chairs, we work really well together and are having fun with it.

Tickets may be limited due to capacity at the Belly Up. Purchase your tickets early and take advantage of the early bird pricing through April 17.
