In case you missed it on the front page of the San Diego Union-Tribune sports section on January 10, here is a fantastic article on LJCDS basketball and football standout Alex Cho ’18. Alex is a leader on the court, on the field and in the classroom!

Congratulations to San Diego Union-Tribune Athlete of the Month Alanna Butcher '21 who led the women's soccer team to a terrific 7-1-1 start this season. Read more in the December article.

After leading the women's basketball team to a busy, competitive and successful winter break, guard Jazzy Anousinh '21 was selected as a San Diego Union-Tribune Athlete of the Week. Read more in this January article. She was also highlighted in this December article in the Tribune.

Former LJCDS tennis great Warren Wood '11 and current Torrey tennis star Ben Gollin '18 teamed up to win the Open Men's Doubles title in the 5th Annual Carmel Valley Tennis Pro National Top 500 Ranking Tournament. Warren and Ben knocked off the #1 seed on their way to the championship. Warren led Claremont-McKenna College to the 2015 NCAA D.III Tennis Championship and is one of a very short list of players who won NCAA singles, doubles and team championships. Ben is committed to play tennis at Columbia University next year.

Congratulations to LJCDS basketball star Ryan Langborg '19 who was selected to the Coast News Tournament All-Tournament Team. The Torreys lost 67-55 to Torrey Pines High School in the championship game.
 
Congratulations to the Torrey cross country star Lexi Watkins '18 and volleyball standout Samantha Francis '21, both of whom were selected First Team All-San Diego Section. Lexi was the Coastal Conference champion, runner-up in the CIF D.V Championships and took third in the California State Meet. Sammy was selected First Team All-Coastal League and led LJCDS to a berth in the CIF SDS and State Open Division playoffs.
 
Former LJCDS and current McKendree University volleyball standout Arela Williams '14 has been named an American Volleyball Coaches Association D.II 3rd Team All-American. Read more.

Congratulations to former LJCDS and University of San Diego football standout Montell Allen '10 for his role in guiding the University of South Carolina to a January 1 Outback Bowl win over Michigan. Montell is a graduate assistant coach for the Gamecocks.

Former LJCDS and current US Military Academy at West Point football star Christian Hayes '15 helped the Army's instant classic 14-13 win in the snow over Navy in December.
 
Former Torrey basketball standout Mai-Loni Henson '16 recorded the University of Washington's first double-double of the season in leading the Huskies to a 93-67 win over Portland. Mai-Loni scored 14 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Read more on the Huskies webpage.

San Diego Union-Tribune ran a terrific feature story on former LJCDS basketball (and volleyball) great Maya Hood ’12. Maya, a University of San Diego graduate student, has been named to the preseason All-West Coast Conference Team and will challenge for USD’s records for points and steals this season. Read more in the Tribune.
