LJCDS Making Headlines

By Jennifer Fogarty, communications content manager
Below is a roundup of stories in the media featuring members of the La Jolla Country Day School community.

Senior Jane Greenip’s story on Girl’s Education: A Legal Right and Only Way Forward was published on News-Decoder, “a not-for-profit news service and global forum for millennials to learn about international affairs and engage in a borderless conversation.” Daniel Norland, Upper School history and social science teacher, encouraged his government class students to submit an entry in the Arch Roberts, Jr. Essay/Reporting Contest. While Jane’s story did not win the contest, News-Decoder liked her piece enough to publish it. Congratulations, Jane!

Julia Day ’20 was highlighted in the Del Mar Times for her altruism in creating Support Kids for All, a nonprofit that helps underprivileged students by providing basic necessities both in San Diego and China. Here in San Diego, Julia has donated clothing and school supplies to the Monarch School, which educates students impacted by homelessness. Great job, Julia!

LJCDS students who participated in Open Studio for Teens at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library were spotlighted in La Jolla Light in an article about the Murals of La Jolla. The free art studio program offers a rotation of multidisciplinary art instructors and curricular activities involving the use of the Athenaeum library resources as a starting point for projects.

Jeff Hutzler, athletic director, was featured on SD Voyager, an online magazine that highlights the best of San Diego and aims to share stories of the community featuring the best people, organizations, businesses, events and more. Coach Hutzler shares how he landed at LJCDS, what makes LJCDS a remarkable school, and also what he would do differently if he could go back in time.
