Cum Laude Society Induction Ceremony

By Eliza Jason, marketing and communications intern
Twenty-one students were inducted into the Cum Laude Society.
Students, faculty, staff and parents gathered to honor the induction of new members to the Cum Laude Society. Juniors and seniors are invited to apply and members are selected based on their academic, athletic and extracurricular activities and achievements. The society’s motto is “Areté, Diké, Timé,” Greek for “Excellence, Justice, Honor.”

Amy Parish, Ph.D., gave the keynote address, entitled “The Life of the Mind: Thoughts on Love of Learning.” She encouraged the LJCDS community to learn for learning’s sake and continually pursue knowledge.
“You may not love or even remember everything you learn here, but almost certainly there will be treasures—treasures that endure, that inspire your passions, that become your touchstones...that [you] turn to for solace, for inspiration, to learn, to think, and to feel,” Dr. Parish said.

The ceremony inducted nine students from the class of 2019 and 13 students from the class of 2020. John Edman, Upper School math educator, presented the senior inductees and Scott Sanders, Upper School history and world languages educator, presented the junior inductees.
