Dreamscapes MOPA Youth Exhibition

Since 2006, MOPA has held an annual juried exhibition showcasing the photographic talents of K–12 students from San Diego and Tijuana. Students are encouraged to submit work that responds visually to a particular theme. The winning entries are selected for their creativity and artistic interpretation of that year’s topic. This year’s call asked students to submit works responding to the theme of dreams—an exploration of the subconscious and the ways in which we perceive dreams. The featured photographs highlight individual and collective hopes, fears and future inspirations.

Tayla Grainger ’20 (photo above): “Depression and anxiety are incurable, and the struggle against mental illness is lifelong. Each day presents a new challenge, and we can choose either to tread water by taking positive steps towards recovery, or surrender to the current and drown. One day, I hope to float by finding and maintaining inner peace.”
