Citizenship Week 2019: Feminism, Empowerment and Breaking Barriers

By Jennifer Fogarty, communications content manager
Through active, engaged citizenship, members of the LJCDS community celebrate and carry forward the vital work of those who paved the way before us and upon whose shoulders we stand.
The Center for Excellence in Citizenship collaborated with the visual and performing arts and design and innovation departments to host weeklong activities in celebration of the second annual Citizenship Week. This year’s theme was feminism, empowerment and breaking barriers, which corresponded with the 100th anniversary of California ratifying the 19th Amendment (Nov 1, 1919) and the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall (Nov 9, 1989).

Citizenship Week culminated with an all-school Citizenship Day on November 7, 2019. Cross-divisional activities engaged students in Lower, Middle and Upper School to work together on artistic endeavors celebrating barriers broken and contemplating barriers still to break.
