Women's Basketball Crowned National Champs

By Hannah Jacobs, marketing and communications intern
The San Diego Union Tribune highlights the LJCDS women's basketball team and their historic season.
Congratulations to our women’s basketball team who finished their greatest season in LJCDS history with a record of 32–1 and were crowned the national champions!

Most states weren’t able to conduct championships in high school boys and girls basketball.

So MaxPreps turned to its computer rankings to determine national champions.

In the end, the girls title came down to strength of schedule with La Jolla Country Day being declared No. 1.

The Torreys finished the season 32-1, winning the Southern California Open Division title with a 59-48 triumph over Los Angeles Windward.

LJCD was scheduled to play San Jose Archbishop Mitty for the state title before the finals were called off because of COVID-19.

MaxPreps noted that La Jolla Country Day beat Mitty 62-54 in Phoenix at the Nike Tournament of Champions.

‘We had a great season and are absolutely thrilled to be No. 1,’ said LJCD coach Terri Bamford.

The Torreys didn’t shy away from competition.
