Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

By Emilyn Edquilang, administrative assistant
Honoring the culture, accomplishments and contributions of Asian American and Pacific Islanders.

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. The LJCDS community celebrated the accomplishments and contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia.

The librarians collaborated to create a reading list for all three divisions that speaks to the AAPI experience or uplifts AAPI voices. All of the books are available in the LJCDS Library.

In April and May, the Parents/Guardians Culturally Responsive Book Club featured discussions around the Interior Chinatown by Charles Yu, 2020 National Book Award Winner.

The student AAPI Affinity Group collaborated with graphic design students to create posters that highlight several AAPI figures that have made their mark on American culture.
