Torrey Football Report - Week 1 vs La Jolla

Torreys fought gallantly against cross town La Jolla on a hot and humid night, but unfortunately we fell short of taking down the Vikings in our 2nd Annual Football Alumni Appreciation Night. After a clutch goal line stand by the Sea of Blue defense as the first half ended, the Torreys trailed 36-21. However, the boys came out on fire to open the third quarter with a pair of touchdown passes from Braxton Burmeister '17 to Casey Mariucci '17, a forced fumble by Ryan LaRiccia '17 (recovered by David Wylie '17) and another Sea of Blue redzone stop and then a TD run by Burmeister (one of his three) to stun the Vikings with 21 unanswered points and a 42-36 lead late in the 3rd quarter. Unfortunately, we couldn't hold off late scores by La Jolla and we ran out of time after over 3 hours of football. Our crowd and atmosphere was loud and enthusiastic all game and this game was definitely an instant classic! Thank you to all of the alumni who came out to support the team.

On Monday, the football team took on the Water Polo team (in Water Polo) to help raise money ($1,200) to help children with diabetes in Nicaragua. It was a really fun event, so be sure to read the story here.
