General Info/FAQs

General Info/ FAQs

Welcome to La Jolla Country Day School’s summer programs serving children locally from San Diego as well as those visiting from out of state or out of the country. We are excited that you are spending some (or all!) of your summer with us. If you’re returning from last year, welcome back and thank you for choosing us again!

We are excited to offer some wonderful opportunities and many new experiences for summer 2018. Students will have numerous options, so every week they can discover something new. Spend the entire day with us or select their experiences a la carte.

From theater to innovation and tech, to art and rock climbing, there are options for every age. Imagine going behind the scenes of the San Diego Zoo, kayaking in La Jolla Cove, or getting an inside tour of the world of animation at Disneyland. These are just a few experiences awaiting you at La Jolla Country Day School this summer.

To learn more about these or any of our other summer experiences, please see the course descriptions below. If you have any questions, please contact Summer Programs director Jessica Abbondanzio at summerprograms@ljcds.org.

Daily Schedule
Take a morning or afternoon class or stay for a full day of fun! Most classes are one week long. The few multi-week courses in our program are noted in the dates section below the course description.

Morning classes run from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. Drop-off for these classes begins at 8:30 a.m. Afternoon classes run from 12:30–3:30 p.m. If your child is staying with us for the morning and the afternoon, they will be able to enjoy a supervised group lunch with their new friends.

Extended Day “Ultimate Camp Experience”
Need to come earlier than 8:30 a.m. or stay later than 3:30 p.m.? No problem! Students can come as early as 7:30 a.m. and stay as late as 5:30 p.m. This time will be filled with additional camp activities such as crafts, games and playtime. This Extended Day experience is a flat $11-per-hour fee. Families using this service will simply be billed at the end of the week.

Lunch (12–12:30 p.m.)
Students enrolled for full days of fun will have a lunch break from 12–12:30 p.m. Lunch is not provided, but parents may order lunches for students from our Corner Bakery delivery service. Purchase the “Lunch Delivery Package” during registration, and you will be sent a menu of choices for your week of camp. Corner Bakery delivery service is only available to K–12 students (pre-K students are asked to bring a lunch for early childhood programs). Students may also bring their own lunches. Please clearly mark names on lunch containers. If students need to bring a sack lunch for a field trip program, please pack it in a disposable container.

Registration
Registration will be completed online at summerljcds.campbrainregistration.com. Students should enroll in classes for the grade level they will be entering in the fall. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Space in a class is only reserved upon receipt of full payment. Classes will run only if there is adequate enrollment. If the minimum class size has not been met by the Wednesday before class starts, the class will be canceled and a full refund will be given to anyone enrolled. Please register early and spread the word about your favorite classes!

If you are enrolling an international student, students should be proficient in English (spoken language, and for some classes reading and writing) in order to fully benefit from the class. Students may be advised to withdraw or switch classes if they do not meet proficiency standards.

We will call parents or emergency contacts as soon as possible using all the phone numbers that we have on file.
  • My student requires to take medications during the day. Do I need to fill out release forms for the medications?

Yes. All students taking prescription OR over-the-counter medications during summer school hours will need to have a Prescription Medication Administration Release Form or Over-the-Counter Medication Administration Release Form filled out in its entirety prior to the start of classes. No medication will be allowed or given at school until this form is submitted even if the medication was given at school the previous year. School year medications will not transfer over.
  • My child has food allergies. How can I be sure he/she will be safe at lunch time?

Please indicate your child’s food allergy on the application form. If your child’s allergies are airborne or otherwise severe, we can provide a separate lunch table. Please be sure to bring any and all emergency medications in the original container prior to the start of the camp in a labeled bag with the allergy action form. Parents are required to bring the medication to our nurse’s office. Please do not send medication in your child’s bag.
