Welcome to La Jolla Country Day School’s summer programs. We are excited that you are spending some (or all!) of your summer with us. If you’re returning from last year, welcome back and thank you for choosing us again!

Schedule
Take a morning or afternoon class or stay for a full day of fun! Most classes are one week long. The few multi-week courses in our program are noted in the dates section below the course description.

Morning classes run from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. Drop-off for these classes begins at 8:30 a.m. Afternoon classes run from 12:30–3:30 p.m. If your child is staying with us for the morning and the afternoon, they will be able to enjoy a supervised group lunch with their new friends.

Extended Day
Need to come earlier than 8:30 a.m. or stay later than 3:30 p.m.? No problem! Students can come as early as 7:30 a.m. and stay as late as 5:30 p.m. This time will be filled with additional camp activities such as crafts, games and playtime. This Extended Day experience is a flat $11-per-hour fee. Families using this service will simply be billed at the end of the week.

  • Early Childhood (Age 3–Jr. K)

    Early Childhood Summer at LJCDS is made up of three two-week sessions running from 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Our early childhood program is committed to providing each child with developmentally appropriate activities to encourage social, emotional, cognitive and physical growth. Our summer program is built and run by professional educators with many years of teaching experience.

    Each session is designed around a fun and enriching theme that will inspire play and learning through a variety of activities including crafts, literature, science and indoor/outdoor play. Students who stay for a full day will have quiet time after lunch, followed by an afternoon snack and fun guest presenters! Afternoon guest presenters may include programs such as Drama Kids, Let’s Cook, Challenge Island, yoga, Creative Dance and more!

    Superhero Afternoon by Challenge Island San Diego  
    The week of July 2 will be a special week of superhero fun during the afternoon session. This will channel the children’s extraordinary powers into a universe of challenges inspired by Batman, Batgirl, Superman, Wonder Woman and many more. 

    Drama Kids StoryLand – Once Upon a Time
    The weeks of July 9 and July 23 will include special weeklong presentations by Drama Kids San Diego.Campers will explore favorite characters from storybooks around the world using the art of masks and movement. Campers will craft their own masks and combine them with movement to develop characters from their imagination. A magical time will be had by all. Storyland adventures include but are not limited to: Where the Wild Things Are, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, and The Little Engine That Could.

    Who can enroll in Early Childhood Summer at LJCDS?
    Early Childhood Summer at La Jolla Country Day School is open to children who meet the following requirements:
    • Children who are potty-trained
    • Children who are age 3–Jr. K (age 3 by the start of class)
    What are the dates, hours and prices?
    Hours of Operation:
    7:30–8:30 a.m. Extended Day option (This time can be included with an extra fee.)
    8:30–9 a.m. Drop-off
    9 a.m.–12 p.m. Morning session (The morning session will conclude with lunchtime. Students are required to bring their own lunch every day.)
    12 p.m. Pick-up for half-day
    12:30–3:30 p.m. Afternoon session for full-day
    3:30 p.m. Pick-up for full-day
    3:30–5:30 p.m. Extended Day option (This time can be included with an extra fee.)

    Camp Dates:
    Session 1: June 18–29 Digging for Dinosaurs
    Session 2: July 2–13 Treasure Island (No class on July 4)
    Session 3: July 16–27 Under the Big Top

    Students do not need to attend both weeks of the two-week sessions. You may sign up for one or both weeks of each session.

    Pricing:
    • $275 per single week for half-day, 9 a.m.–12 p.m. (Each two-week session is $550 for half-day.)
    • $525 per single week for full-day, 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m. (Each two-week session is $1,050 for full-day.)
    • The week of July 2–6 is $220 for half-day and $420 for full-day.
    The week of July 2–6 is discounted due to the 4th of July holiday break. We will be closed on Wednesday, July 4.

    Early Bird Discount: For registrations received on or before Friday, April 13, a 10 percent discount will apply.

    Snacks? 
    A morning snack will be provided by LJCDS. All snacks are peanut and tree-nut free. If your child has an allergy or food sensitivity besides nut allergies, we are happy to work with you to make reasonable accommodations for your child.
    If a student stays for the afternoon, an additional snack is provided by LJCDS.

    Lunch? 
    Students are required to bring their own lunch each day.

    Extended Day?
    Early Childhood Summer at LJCDS offers extended daycare from 7:30–8:30 a.m. in the morning, and then again in the afternoon from 3:30–5:30 p.m. There is an $11/hour fee for extended care. Families will be invoiced at the end of each session for daycare charges.

  • Little Green Thumbs (Age 3–Kindergarten)

    Step into the garden to learn about soil, seeds and sprouts in this camp that’s sure to inspire your budding gardener. Examine fruits, vegetables, plants and leaves, and learn about the interesting variety of creatures that live in your garden and help it grow. Jump through puddles, bathe in the sun and enjoy the cool breeze as you dig into the soil and grow with Mad Science! Take-home projects include a radish plant, sun visor, bean necklace, veggie placemat and bug bracelet. This experience will be conducted by Mad Science of San Diego.

  • Preschool Hard Hats (Age 3–Kindergarten)

    This woodworking class, tailored to preschoolers, entails sawing, sanding and putting a little build together. Students will go through tool safety and get to know all the tools that they use. Little builders will have a chance to use a variety of materials as they saw, drill, nail, hammer, sand, tile and paint. Each class includes a take-home project that will bring out the innovative engineer in your child!
