Additional Programs

On-Campus Visitors/Guests

To help reduce the number of people on campus, parent/guardian and guest visits will be limited. Staff members may continue to work remotely as their responsibilities allow.

Family Engagement

LJCDS values the partnership between families and educators. Albeit virtually, we will continue to offer opportunities for parent coffees, workshops, PA meetings and more.

Lunches will be available and delivered to students in kindergarten and Grades 1–12 in their cohorts. Parents/students will have an opportunity to pre-order lunch. SAGE Dining Services® remains committed to providing a variety of quality and healthy options that accommodate allergies and dietary restrictions. Please do not bring products with peanuts and tree nuts.

SAGE is committed to offering three types of entrées: hot foods, cold sandwiches and salads.  Click here to learn more about SAGE’s COVID-19 Core Standards for the community-inclusive operations.

SAGE has implemented additional inspections and precautionary measures of the facility and food preparations to ensure the health and safety of all community members. All SAGE employees are ServSafe® COVID-19 certified and will undergo daily temperature and wellness checks.

Students have the option to bring their own lunch to campus. We kindly ask parents not to send any food into school for their children to share with others, e.g. birthday cakes or class snacks, until further notice. Individual snacks for children are, of course, still permitted. Please avoid bringing products with peanuts and tree nuts.

Visit the LJCDS/SAGE website for more information.

LJCDS has secured more buses to ensure every route will continue as scheduled while adhering to physical distancing. Seating will be spaced at least 6 feet apart by blocking off every other seat, alternating on each side of the school bus. Students will be loaded back to front to reduce contact.

Early Care/Extended Day

We know several of our families rely on our Extended Care options. As our first priority is the health and safety of our community, this service will be modified. Morning drop off for Extended Care will start at 7:30 a.m. We are still finalizing plans for Extended Day.

Physical Education - ECC–Grade 6

Lower and Middle School students will participate in physical education outdoors and in the gym with other members of their cohorts. They will not be changing into PE uniforms and should plan on wearing appropriate clothing/shoes for PE to school.

Athletics - Grades 7–12

Upper School
As determined by CIF, the start of Upper School athletics will begin in mid-December. Traditionally, there are three athletic seasons: fall, winter and spring. This year, athletics has been condensed into two seasons, with fall athletics starting in mid-December and spring in March.

Playing all of our sports and fielding all of our teams into two seasons comes with challenges. We are working through meticulous planning.

The state provided the end dates for each sports’ season but each section may determine the start dates for their sports. The CIF San Diego Section will publish our start dates on August 14.

Physical Examination Update: The state had originally provided for a 30-day physical waiver, but due to the fall season starting in December, that has changed. All athletes must have a completed physical on file with our athletic trainer, Christine Mitchell, before he/she may participate in athletic practices in December and/or March.
Middle School
The South Coast Middle School League has yet to determine how, when and if Middle School athletics will be played in 2020-2021. Athletic directors will meet once campuses successfully reopen to formulate a plan that is safe and healthy for all the SCMSL member schools’ Middle School students.

Middle School PE classes will resume once we return to on-campus learning.

School Trips

Until further notice, all school trips, including Outdoor Education and Experiential Education, are on hold for the remainder of this school year.
