Additional Programs

On-Campus Visitors/Guests

To help reduce the number of people on campus, parent/guardian and guest visits will be limited. Staff members may continue to work remotely as their responsibilities allow.

Family Engagement

LJCDS values the partnership between families and educators. Albeit virtually, we will continue to offer opportunities for parent coffees, workshops, PA meetings and more.

Lunch

SAGE Dining Services® remains committed to providing a variety of quality and healthy options that accommodate allergies and dietary restrictions. Lunch is pre-ordered and delivered to students in kindergarten and Grades 1–12 in their cohorts. SAGE is committed to offering three types of entrées: hot foods, cold sandwiches and salads.

SAGE has implemented additional inspections and precautionary measures of the facility and food preparations to ensure the health and safety of all community members. All SAGE employees are ServSafe® COVID-19 certified and will undergo daily temperature and wellness checks.

Students have the option to bring their own lunch to campus. We kindly ask parents not to send any food into school for their children to share with others, e.g., birthday cakes or class snacks, until further notice. Individual snacks for children are, of course, still permitted. Please avoid bringing products with peanuts and tree nuts.

Visit the LJCDS/SAGE website for more information. Questions about the lunch program can be directed to SAGE Food Service Director Saeed Samad at 858-453-3440 ex.187 or ssamad@sagedining.com.

Transportation

Every bus route will continue as scheduled. Physical distancing is implemented on each bus. Seating is spaced out at least 6 feet apart by blocking off every other seat, alternating on each side of the school bus. Students are loaded back to front to reduce contact.

Early Care/Extended Day

This service has been modified to honor health and safety protocols. Morning drop-off for Extended Care starts at 7:30 a.m.

Lower School Extended Day takes place on the Lower School playground from 3:30-5:30 p.m. for a fee. Middle School Extended Day takes place in the quad from 3:15-5:30 p.m. Parents can pick up their children from the Early Childhood Center (ECC) parking lot. Please note: All other parking lots will be closed. The security guard in the ECC lot will notify the appropriate Extended Day group when the parent/guardian arrives and the child(ren) will be walked over to the ECC lot. Parents/guardians remain in the car. Contact Jessica Lacoff-Roberts at jlacoffr@ljcds.org with any questions.

Physical Education - ECC–Grade 6

Lower and Middle School students will participate in physical education outdoors and in the gym with other members of their cohorts. They will not be changing into PE uniforms and should plan on wearing appropriate clothing/shoes for PE to school.

Athletics - Grades 7–12

Upper School
The CIF San Diego Section remains committed to resuming high school athletic practices on Dec. 12 with contests starting just after the new year. LJCDS is planning for a mid-November return to on-campus workouts and training. More info will follow as it becomes available. Contact your head coach or Athletic Director Jeff Hutzler at jhutzler@ljcds.org with any questions.

Traditionally, there are three athletic seasons: fall, winter and spring. This year, athletics has been condensed into two seasons, with fall athletics starting in mid-December and spring in March.

Physical Examination Update: The state had originally provided for a 30-day physical waiver, but due to the fall season starting in December, that has changed. All athletes must have a completed physical on file with our athletic trainer, Christine Mitchell, before he/she may participate in athletic practices in December and/or March.

Middle School
The South Coast Middle School League is beginning to outline plans for a return to competitive athletics with contests starting as early as just after the new year. Coach Judy Spoelstra attends the league’s meetings and has taken an active role in planning the return to sports. More information to follow as it becomes available.

Middle School PE classes have resumed.

Design and Innovation

Access to the Innovation Lab (Middle School and Upper School) and Virtual Reality Lab (Upper School) is now available by appointment with the Design and Innovation staff. Classes are rotating small groups of students through the labs for various units. Please refer to emails by the divisions regarding any resource pick-up for home learners.

School Trips

Until further notice, all school trips, including Outdoor Education and Experiential Education, are on hold for the remainder of this school year.
