  • What forms of payment do you accept?

    You may pay online by credit card (VISA/Mastercard/AMEX/Discover accepted) unless applying for financial assistance. Please see information on financial assistance.
  • Does my child have to attend La Jolla Country Day School?

    Our summer program is open to the public. We welcome all children whether or not they attend La Jolla Country Day School.
  • Where do the camps take place?

    All programs take place at or are based from La Jolla Country Day School. If the class activities occur off campus, the class will meet on campus at the posted start time and take campus transportation.

  • May I visit the campus before the first day of camp?

    We welcome families to visit campus before the start of their summer program. We request that families schedule an appointment by contacting our Summer Programs office at 858-453-3440 x333 or email at summerprograms@ljcds.org.
  • Where do we go on the first day of camp?

    We will have a curbside check-in in our Genesee Avenue parking lot for morning drop-off. During Monday’s check-in, parents will receive their child’s security code for pick-up. The adult picking up the student will need to have this code for us to be able to release the child. Upper School students are allowed to drive themselves and check themselves in and out.

    Parents will be notified of room numbers and are encouraged to visit the classrooms to see what is happening this summer. For assistance locating rooms, you may check-in with summer staff on the first floor in the Jacobs Family Library/administration building.
  • How will July 4 be recognized?

    There will be no classes on Thursday, July 4 and Friday, July 5 in observance of the national holiday.
  • Will the library be open?

    Summer programs management will be officed in the first-floor library in the Jacobs Family Library/administration building but summer book check-out will not be available. There is plenty of seating and waiting area available to families. The second-floor library will not be open.
  • Do we receive a T-shirt?

    Each student will receive one Summer at Country Day T-shirt with their first class of the summer. Students are encouraged to wear their shirt on field trips.
  • Do you provide financial assistance?

    Financial assistance is available for academic enrichment classes only for families enrolled full-time at La Jolla Country Day School in the fall of 2019. Families must complete the online registration and select the financial assistance option for payment.
  • Can a portion of a camp be prorated?

    No. The child must be registered for an entire session of a given camp. There are no refunds for absences.
  • Do you offer academic credit?

    Two classes for Upper School offer academic credit, including grades and comments: 
    • Geometry class offers semester and full year credit
    • Oceans: A Field-Based Approach offers UC-approved elective credit
    If you do not attend La Jolla Country Day School, your school counselor must approve of the summer school course to receive credit.
  • Are the Upper School classes AP classes?

    No. The Upper School classes are not AP classes. Please keep that in mind when registering for Upper School classes.
  • If I have more than one child who wishes to attend, do I have to fill out separate registrations?

    Yes. You will need to create an online account for the summer program registration site then add each child to the main account. Families can be registered together once the account is created. Please complete an online registration for each camper you wish to enroll.
  • Are books or other supplies needed?

    All books and supplies are included in the fees for the course.
  • Is bus transportation available?

    Unfortunately, regular bus transportation is not available to or from La Jolla Country Day School. Transportation will be offered to and from field trips that are a part of our courses.
  • Does my child need immunization records for camp?

    Due to the recent measles outbreaks, LJCDS is requiring proof of immunizations for all children attending summer camp. Please submit your child’s yellow California immunization card or official record with doctor’s signature and dates of immunizations.

  • What if my student becomes hurt or injured during the program?

    No matter how many precautions we take, accidents can happen. During our summer program, we have a registered nurse and athletic trainer on campus from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. In addition, our counselors are trained in CPR and first-aid. Counselors in camp programs that travel off campus for field trips are also trained in the use of epi-pens and medication administration. All serious injuries are directed immediately to the camp nurse. The nurse will triage incidents and arrange for emergency transport, if necessary.

    We will call parents or emergency contacts as soon as possible using all the phone numbers that we have on file. All families must provide the camp with a local phone number in the event of an emergency.
  • My student requires to take medications during the day. Do I need to fill out release forms for the medications?

    Yes. All students taking prescription medications during summer school hours will need to have a Prescription Medication Administration Release Form filled out in its entirety prior to the start of classes. No medication will be allowed or given at school until this form is submitted even if the medication was given at school the previous year. School year medications will not transfer over.

    Students that need to take medication at school must deliver the medication to the school nurse in the original bottle together with the signed form above.

    Students are not allowed to carry any medications (except with permission from a parent and the school nurse).

  • My child has food allergies. How can I be sure he/she will be safe at lunch time?

    Please indicate your child’s food allergy on the application form. If your child’s allergies are airborne or otherwise severe, we can provide a separate lunch table. Please be sure to bring any and all emergency medications in the original container prior to the start of the camp in a labeled bag with the allergy action form. Parents are required to bring the medication to our nurse’s office. Please do not send medication in your child’s bag.

    Snack is provided at Early Childhood Summer Program and in some classes. All of our snacks are peanut and tree-nut free. If your child has an allergy or food sensitivity besides nut allergies, we are happy to work with you to make reasonable accommodations for your child.
  • Who are the staff members who work at La Jolla Country Day's Summer Program?

    The majority of summer teachers are current LJCDS faculty or from our long-term substitute list. Other staff are professionals in their field and college students.
