Sports Camps

Welcome to Summer at Country Day!

La Jolla Country Day School is proud to offer experiences for every age, from the arts to athletics and innovation to business. 

Imagine field trips exploring San Diego, navigating obstacles with parkour, cooking pies or noodles, learning to speak Spanish, becoming an engineer or inventor, building leadership skills, sculpting in ceramics, jumping in cheer camp, learning the business of sports management, coding a video game or dancing hip-hop. These are just a few experiences awaiting campers at LJCDS this summer. 

  • Weekly sessions run from June 12–August 11.
  • Morning (8:30–11:30 a.m.), afternoon (12:30–3:30 p.m.) and full-day experiences.
  • Grades 1–12 summer sessions are open to the public. The age 3–kindergarten programs are only available for students enrolled at LJCDS in the fall.

Sports Camps

Morning

  • Baseball Camp (Grades 1–8) 

    The LJCDS baseball coaching staff would like to invite players to learn the fundamentals of the game while providing a morning full of fun on the ball field. The camp includes:
    • Proper warm-up, arm care and throwing technique
    • Defensive fundamentals (including pitching, catching, infield and outfield)
    • Base-running technique and strategy
    • Hitting mechanics and mentality
    • Game strategy and mentality
    • Games with players of similar age and ability

    What to bring: Each player must bring their own baseball equipment, including gloves, bat, helmet, cleats/spikes, running/turf shoes, hats and any other equipment they feel is necessary to compete. Catchers must bring their own gear. Please make sure the player’s name is on all items.

  • Basketball Camp (Grades 1–8) 

    This basketball skills camp emphasizes footwork, detailed ball-handling, defensive principles, shooting fundamentals and elite skill development for all levels and ages. 

    What to bring: Players should bring a snack and a refillable water bottle.

  • Beach Volleyball (Grades 5–8)

    Beginner, intermediate and experienced players sharpen their volleyball skills on the beach by improving their vertical jump for indoor play and learning to move faster in the sand. This camp focuses on passing and setting ball control, speed and agility footwork, serving and hitting practice, defensive movements, and gameplay. Players gain experience with tough windy conditions in deep sand, preparing them to compete in local 2-on-2 tournaments. Beach volleyball is one of the fastest-growing NCAA sports, is offered in colleges all over the nation, and this year, officially became CIF-sanctioned at the high school level.
     
    What to bring: A refillable water bottle, sunscreen, hat/visor, sunglasses and a healthy snack.

  • Boys Lacrosse Camp (Grades 1–8)

    It’s time for summer goals! This four-day camp is designed to improve skills in all aspects of lacrosse, for both beginners and advanced players. Start at square one, focusing on being fundamentally sound and technically correct, then build from the ground up. Students leave with the confidence of a strong foundation for future success.
     
    What to bring: Each player can bring their own lacrosse equipment and any other items they feel are necessary to compete. A refillable water bottle, sunscreen, lacrosse stick and athletic apparel (shorts, T-shirts, sneakers, or turfs) are required. It is highly recommended that players bring snacks every day. Please make sure the player’s name is on all items.

  • Cheer Camp (Grades 5–8)

    Ready? Ok! In this peppy course, cheerleaders learn cheers, dance, stunts, tumbling and jumps. When the clock runs out, they combine their new skills to put on a short performance for families on the final day. No experience is necessary in order to participate. All participants receive a T-shirt and hair bow.

    What to bring: Participants should bring a snack and a refillable water bottle.

  • Girls Volleyball Camp (Grades 3–7) 

    Come volley this summer and learn tactical strategies to improve your game. Practice key skills including passing, setting, hitting, blocking, serving and digging. Beginner to advanced players are welcome.

    What to bring: Knee pads, snacks and a refillable water bottle.

  • Soccer Camp: Coed (Grades 1–4)

    This coed camp is for students interested in improving their understanding of the game, comfortability on the ball, and leadership skills in a holistic, fun game-like environment. All levels are encouraged to attend.

    What to bring: Participants should bring a snack and a refillable water bottle.

  • Tennis Camp (Grades 1–10) 

    This camp teaches and enhances the students' love for the sport of tennis in a structured environment that focuses on teaching solid fundamentals to allow for proper development. Sign up for one week or all eight. Each day of camp includes drilling and stroke production, footwork and movement, and appropriate strategy sessions based on skill level. Continual evaluation and feedback are provided.

    What to bring: Each player must bring their tennis racket and any other items they feel necessary to compete, a snack and a refillable water bottle. Please make sure the player’s name is on all items.

  • Coed Golf Camp (Grades 5–9) 

    This four-day camp provides an introduction to golf fundamentals including putting, chipping, ball striking, rules and etiquette. Players practice on putting and pitch-and-putt courses. They full-swing hit into nets with real balls and into the field with foam and plastic flight-limited balls. Players MUST have prior golf knowledge and play experience. 

    What to bring: Each player must bring their own golf equipment including clubs, shoes, balls, hats and any other equipment they feel is necessary to compete. Please make sure the player’s name is on all items. 

    June 12–15 (No camp on Friday, June 16)

  • Football Camp (Grades 1–8)

    The LJCDS football coaching staff is hosting a non-pad youth football skills camp. Campers work on the fundamentals of football and compete in a series of combined drills to test their speed and agility. The ultimate goal of this camp is to help ignite a passion for football as campers prepare for the beginning of their youth football season or are introduced to football for the first time. By the end of the week, campers are better prepared both physically and mentally for a fantastic season in the fall.

  • Rock Climbing at Mesa Rim (Grades 3–8)

    This climbing camp is for young adventurers to experience rock climbing, learn new skills and make friends. Camp activities are tailored to each child based on age and experience level. Under the guidance of experienced coaches, campers learn climbing movements and how to tie knots and belay other climbers. Non-climbing activities include mentally challenging games and arts and crafts. Transportation is provided between LJCDS and Mesa Rim Climbing Center.

    All participants MUST complete the Mesa Rim waiver

    What to bring: Participants can bring their own shoes, harness, chalk bag and ABD belay device if they have them. If not, all equipment can be rented for no additional cost.

    This coed camp is for students interested in improving their understanding of the game, comfortability on the ball, and leadership skills in a holistic, fun environment. All levels are encouraged to attend.

  • Athletic Performance Camp (Grades 6–12)

    Whether a novice or champion, one-sport or multisport athlete, we have the program for you. Enhance your skills with joint integrity, stabilization, balance, coordination, agility, functional strength and conditioning. The mechanics of running, jumping and moving in multiple directions are covered. Registrants can choose to attend multiple weeks and session times.

  • Closed—Positive Adventures (Grades 1–8) Full Day

    The Positive Adventures Camp is for young adventurers to experience sailing, surfing, kayaking, rock climbing and hiking, plus learn new skills and make friends. Camp activities are tailored to each child based on age and experience level. Under the guidance of experienced outdoor educators, campers learn the skills necessary for each experience. Water safety training and briefings are provided. Transportation is provided between LJCDS and each location.
     
    What to bring: Campers should bring a snack and a refillable water bottle. 

    Monday: Paradise Point – Sailing 
    Tuesday: Mission Beach – Surfing 
    Wednesday: Paradise Point – Kayaking 
    Thursday: Mira Mesa – Rock Climbing

  • Nike Coed Basketball Shooting Camp (Ages 6–18/Grades 1–12) Evening

    Train with one of the most prominent high school basketball coaches in the U.S., Coach Terri Bamford. The Shooting Camp emphasizes technique, footwork, shooting drills, shooting off the dribble, shooting off the pass, shooting games, free-throw shooting and post/perimeter shooting.

  • Nike Girls Basketball Complete Skills Camp (Ages 6–18/Grades 1–12) AM and Full Day

    Train with one of the most prominent high school basketball coaches in the U.S., Coach Terri Bamford. The Complete Skills Camp helps girls of all abilities to develop athletically, refine fundamental basketball skills, and enhance their skill set at the post, wing or guard position.

  • Parkour at APEX (Grades 1–8) Full Day

    APEX PK Camps include activities like vaulting, flipping, swinging, games, obstacle courses, arts and crafts, perseverance training, self-discipline, character development and more. They teach safe and sustainable parkour by using a method that starts slowly and progresses with the student’s skill level.  

    What to bring: Participants should wear comfortable clothing and sneakers and bring a snack and a refillable water bottle.

    All participants must complete an APEX Health Form, also found in the summer registration portal.
