“My role at La Jolla Country Day School is to support an office dedicated to helping outstanding students start their path here. That path begins with the application process. As a member of the admission team, I provide support for families as they navigate these crucial first steps. When applicants become students here, I am one of many hands who helped them become part of this community that will give them the knowledge, skills and resources to achieve great things, and in that sense, I help to inspire greatness.”

From an early age, Catherine Florendo’s parents taught her to value education. She was the first person in her family to graduate from college. Before joining LJCDS, she was teaching associate at San Diego State University, an instructional assistant at Miramar College and a transcript coordinator supporting the office of the registrar at Ashford University. Mrs. Florendo is currently the assistant to the office of admission.

Mrs. Florendo has a passion for language and literature, particularly British novels and poetry.  She earned her bachelor’s degree in literature at the University of California, San Diego and her master’s degree in linguistics at San Diego State University.

“I really loved school, and I enjoyed being a student. When I look at Country Day – the beautiful campus, spaces that foster learning and creativity, faculty and staff who genuinely believe in and support the school’s mission to develop students who value academics, arts, athletics, and service to community – I can’t help but wish I had gone to a school like this one.”
