“I inspire greatness for a better world by teaching, enabling and inspiring students of all ages to learn, grow and excel. I strive to give each student the attention and detail required to overcome challenges and reach their goals.”
Daisy Vaisburg is passionate about making learning fun. As a learning specialist in the Learning Resource Center, she aims to build student confidence while improving their academic skills. Mrs. Vaisburg works with students of various grade levels from all backgrounds in a one-on-one setting. She also teaches Torrey Mindful Learning, an executive functioning course in the Middle and Upper Schools. Mrs. Vaisburg’s focus is ensuring students have the tools and resources to become independent, successful learners. Mrs. Vaisburg builds relationships with her students to ensure they feel comfortable and safe, allowing them to learn and grow during their sessions.
Mrs. Vaisburg earned a Bachelor of Arts in sociology with a minor in education from the University of California, Los Angeles and a master’s degree in educational therapy and special education from California State University, Northridge. She is a member of the Association of Educational Therapy. Before joining the LJCDS family in 2023, Mrs. Vaisburg’s primary focus was her private educational therapy practice, Learning Made Fun.
In her free time, Mrs. Vaisburg enjoys spending time with her husband, Leo and their two sons, Benjamin and Jordan. She loves running after her two kids and exploring new parks and playgrounds in San Diego. She also enjoys spending time with her siblings and their children in the San Diego sunshine.
“I inspire greatness for a better world by teaching students to think logically and critically so they can become the problem solvers who will one day transform our world. I work to ensure that they feel supported in their endeavors. All students can be successful practitioners of mathematics, and it is my job to help them unleash their powers of logic so they can achieve their full potential.”
Diana Valji’s life was so profoundly affected by the wonderful, supportive teachers who challenged her that she was inspired to pursue a career in education. As a mathematics teacher in the Upper School, she works to prepare her students for a lifetime of learning, logical thinking and problem solving. As the advisory program coordinator for the Upper School, she leads the council in planning the curriculum for all four years as well as coordinating logistics for the program on a weekly basis.
Mrs. Valji earned her Bachelor of Arts in biochemical sciences with a secondary field in mathematics and a citation in Spanish from Harvard University, and her M.Ed. with emphases in secondary science and mathematics from the University of California, San Diego.
Before joining the La Jolla Country Day School community, she taught biology at Gompers Preparatory Academy. She has been teaching at LJCDS since 2009 and has coached the club ultimate frisbee team for the past four.
Mrs. Valji and her husband, Matthew, enjoy a friendly rivalry as teachers at competing schools, and they are a force to be reckoned with when watching Jeopardy, playing charades or participating in their favorite weekly trivia night. They welcomed a son in February 2016, and they are excited about embarking on the journey that is parenthood.
“I inspire greatness for a better world by helping students discover the power of words. We make a difference when we become articulate communicators and judicious listeners. I tell students to write their own story so that no one else will write it for them. This is how we discover the type of person we will be and what type of impact we will leave on others.”
Danice VonFeldt’s passion is to work with students to help cultivate the next generation of critical thinkers, problem solvers and lifelong learners. Her educational philosophy is based on the understanding that acquiring knowledge is an endeavor that is best nurtured when students are curious, inspired and motivated. It is her mission to provide a rich, stimulating environment that allows students opportunities to explore, discover and experience the power of language through quality literature, relevant experiences and joyful interpretations.
Ms. VonFeldt joined the Middle School in 2013. Prior to teaching at LJCDS, she worked at the Pingry School in New Jersey, first as a third-grade teacher and then as a literacy specialist for the Lower School. She has more than 15 years of teaching experience in both public and independent schools. Ms. VonFeldt has a multiple-subjects teaching credential and a master’s degree in teaching and learning from the University of California, San Diego.
When not in her classroom with fantastic and inquisitive students, Ms. VonFeldt enjoys spending time outdoors with her family. She has two wonderful children that keep her very busy. They love to camp, hike, kayak and explore new places. When family activities quiet down, she can be found curled up on her couch reading a good book!
“I inspire greatness for a better world by creating a Web support system for families to access the tools they need to manage their child’s classes, activities and overall LJCDS experience. I strive to find ways to improve school communications to parents. Through content and photos on the website, my hope is to connect our current and prospective families to the school.”
May Vukotich’s role in the Upper School College Counseling Team and Upper School Admin Team is to provide administrative assistance to the US teams that keep our Upper School running.
Ms. Vukotich graduated from Cal State, Fullerton, with the hopes of becoming an educator, but her career path took her to the corporate sector, working in the home building, food, technology and mortgage industries. When the opportunity to work at La Jolla Country Day School was presented to her in April 2008, Ms. Vukotich said it felt like she was given a second chance to get back to the field she loves.
Ms. Vukotich considers herself an “almost” native of San Diego, as her father was stationed in San Diego with the U.S. Navy when she was a child. You can find May around campus supporting the teams, assisting students or working with parents.
May and her husband, Stefan, are proud LJCDS parents: Natalia ’20 and Eli ’25.
