World Language Honor Society Inductees
The annual induction of new members.
Congratulations to the 13 new members of the LJCDS World Language Honor Societies. The induction ceremony took place on April 23, 2006, in the amphitheater and included a welcome by Spanish Educator Profe Beth Cross, opening remarks by Head of Upper School James Joseph, a student reflection by Iain Halloran ’26, and music by Ms. Diener’s string students.
In his speech, Iain reflected on how studying Chinese and Spanish has shaped not just his academic journey but also his perspective on the world. He emphasized that while mastering a language is challenging, the process builds empathy and helps break down the tendency toward indifference, reminding us that others are “more alike to us than they are different, and just as deserving of our empathy and respect.”
The LJCDS World Languages Honor Societies recognize excellence in the mastery of French, Mandarin, or Spanish and honor the commitment to the continued study of the language and the culture. These organizations emphasize not only scholarship but also leadership, service, and character. Students who meet the criteria are invited to formally apply for membership in the Honor Societies. Membership is both an honor and a responsibility.
Congratulations to these seniors!
