Center for Excellence in Citizenship

Citizenship is not a one-time accomplishment; it is a lifelong practice. The Center for Excellence in Citizenship (CEC) develops unique opportunities for LJCDS students, faculty and families to engage in the vital work of local, national and global citizenship, focusing on the fundamental importance of human dignity in all interactions. CEC fosters civic engagement and civil discourse, galvanizing students to think about their rights and responsibilities as citizens and to be thoughtful participants in their communities.

Goals

  • Engage students, faculty and families in building community and strengthening communication
  • Empower and facilitate interdisciplinary and cross-divisional collaboration
  • Promote and support responsible civic engagement
  • Assist students across the political spectrum in their efforts to be active participants in the democratic process
True citizenship requires that we do our best to understand and address the inequalities present in the system that we’re all a part of—a system that we are all shaped by, and that we can all help shape.”
