This week saw 2 of Country Day's outstanding class of 2017 student-athletes commit to continue their athletic careers at Pac12 universities.
This morning, Torrey quarterback Braxton Burmeister comitted to play at the University of Arizona after graduation from LJCD. Braxton, who has started every game for Country Day since his freshman year, is one of the nation's top ranked QB's in the class of 2017. He received 12 scholarship offers, narrowing his choices down to the University of Washington and Arizona before deciding on the Wildcats.
On Wednesday, Alaysia "Bird" Styles committed to continue her basketball career at the University of California, Berkeley. Alaysia, who led the Lady Torreys to a State Championship as a sophomore and CIF Open Division runner-up as a junior, had 20 scholarship offers. Her short list included the University of Maryland, Oregon State and Cal.
Braxton and Bird will join 6 former Torreys already competing in the Pac12: Kelsey Plum '13, basketball at Washington Tommy Edman '13, baseball at Stanford Arielle Schechtman '14, soccer at UCLA Alfonso Rivas '15, baseball at Arizona Julius Diehr '15, cross country and track at Washington Mai-Loni Henson '16, basketball at Washington Roberto Lebrija '16, golf at Oregon
Nick Schlossberg '12 (football at USC), Alberto Sanchez '12 (golf at Arizona State) and Lindsey Kostas '12 (tennis at Stanford) just concluded their Pac12 careers.
