MaiaLearning: Your College Process Partner

By College Counseling
For the past several years, counselors, students, and parents have used MaiaLearning as our college counseling software to support students through their college search and application processes. We can track college choices, recommend colleges that may be a good fit, record students' standardized test scores, view statistics that help guide research and college list development, submit supporting application documents, and report results. Once students log in to their accounts, they can access features that allow them to search for colleges, which helps them define which colleges will be on the application list in the fall of their senior year.

However, there are many other tools and resources available right now that you might want to check out, even before you think about submitting applications.

Resources
In MaiaLearning, several videos are available to guide students through various stages of the college search and selection process. Please see the Resources tab in MaiaLearning and click on the School Resources Tab. There are video tutorials on college search and career planning, as well as opportunities to learn more about your learning style and personality through assessments.

Additionally, this section includes information on many other topics, including Application Resources, Enrichment Programs, Previous Webinar Links, Articles related to College Counseling, Information for Student Athletes, and Financial Assistance and Scholarship Information.

Learning More About Colleges & Customizing Your Search
MaiaLearning makes it easy for students to research and discover details about potential colleges. Through University Search, clicking on the name of a college brings students to a college detail page that includes an overview of the location and campus community, admission statistics, academic offerings, support services, and much more.

Students and families can customize their search by applying filters in the University Search option. You can view lists of universities by different parameters, including: Location; University Lists available based on application types (Coalition, Common App, CSU, ApplyTexas, and UC); type of school; selectivity; academic programs; athletics; diversity; and standardized test options. Clicking the heart to the right of the college name adds it to the student’s Colleges Considering list to help track and organize colleges of interest.

The Admission section contains tons of great information about past LJCDS applicants. It reflects admissions decisions in scattergrams and lists that can be toggled to include different numbers of years, ACT vs. SAT, and early vs. regular decision for each institution.

Of course, if you have any questions about how to access these resources, reach out to your student’s college counselor. Each student and parent in the Upper School has a MaiaLearning account, ready to access today!
