• Band

  The Upper School bands offer a dynamic program with a comprehensive approach to instrumental music education. Each of the available courses (Band, Band Honors, Percussion and World Drumming, Percussion and World Drumming Honors) delve into a wide range of musical styles and cultural influences. Contemporary concert band, jazz, marching, and percussion ensembles provide quality and challenging performance opportunities.

• Drama

  The Upper School drama program picks up where Middle School leaves off, introducing students to even more rigorous training and some of the most important texts from world drama. Stretching their imaginations and skills to the limit, the Upper School drama program dares students to reach beyond what they believe possible to discover more about who they are and the world in which they live. Options include studio acting, play production, and production design and management honors.

• Strings

  The Upper School orchestra program has enjoyed 30 years of success. Comprised of a chamber orchestra and an honors orchestra class, the goal of these ensembles is to work together as a team to achieve musical excellence as well as develop a lifelong passion for music. The orchestra has competed in national music festivals, earning gold medals and superior ratings. There are countless opportunities for smaller groups to perform in various school and community service events throughout the year.

• Technical Theater

  Upper School theater tech takes the basic skills learned in Middle School and provides many practical opportunities for refinement and advancement. In an environment where the only requirement is a willingness to try and the freedom to let the mind invent creative solutions, each student has the opportunity to participate in creating the imaginative worlds required by our theatrical productions.

• Vocal Music

  The Upper School vocal music program carries a long tradition of excellence. The concert choir and honors Madrigal singers have earned multiple superior ratings at national choral adjudications and praises for their international performance tours in Italy, Greece, Turkey and Spain. LJCDS choral ensembles are highly regarded performances on campus and in the San Diego community.
