La Jolla Country Day (LJCDS)’s Middle School curriculum provides courses that challenge the intellectual, artistic and athletic development of each student, preparing them for the Upper School and beyond. Course offerings include English, mathematics, science, history and foreign language. These core subjects are augmented by enriching courses that include an array of exploratory electives: life skills, technology, Facing History And Ourselves (FHAO), 3D art and athletics. Each course expands students’ knowledge of the subject and develops the skills necessary for the success of the college preparatory curriculum in the Upper School.
Communication is the cornerstone to the academic success of Middle School students. The progress of each student is monitored by the child’s advisor, the grade level team of teachers, the dean of students and the Middle School director. Emphasis on organization, leadership, critical thinking and the development of our pillars of character is central to all learning.
