Middle School Teacher Named Educator of the Year
Middle School math teacher Pam Madigan was named Educator of the Year, presented by the La Jolla Golden Triangle Rotary Club. Mrs. Madigan was one of two outstanding educators in San Diego honored for her leadership, inspiration, mastery of teaching and love for her students.
For more than 20 years, Mrs. Madigan has impacted the lives of LJCDS students in the classroom and beyond. In the classroom, she has helped build solid foundations for success in math and science in Grades 5-8 (and instilled a love for the subjects). She additionally teaches Facing History and Ourselves and advisory and is the team leader for Grade 8 and the former mathematics department head.
Head of Middle School Colleen O’Boyle shares, “Pam believes her role as teacher, advisor, team leader and department chair is to advocate for students and teachers to create a positive learning environment. Through the advisory and ‘Facing History and Ourselves’ programs, she is a role model and leader who helps guide students to become thoughtful young adults and responsible, caring citizens. In the math arena, her role is to give students the support they need to realize their mathematical potential. She strives to provide a positive learning environment, where students can be creative and feel confident in their ability to solve problems.”
The La Jolla Golden Triangle Rotary Club has long exhibited support and concern for young people through its many activities serving the local and international communities. The Educator of the Year award is presented each year to honor teachers and counselors from the community for the special contributions and impact they make to the academic and personal growth of their students. Of the teachers from public, private and charter schools who were nominated, two were honored as finalists during a breakfast in May.
