A member of the class of 2021 is an Under Armour All-American.
LJCDS volleyball standout Samantha “Sami” Francis ’21 has been selected as an Under Armour All-American.
Sami was one of 11 high school girls out of 974 nominations nationwide preselected for the 24-women team. Due to COVID-19, the All-American game, planned for January 1, 2021, has been canceled. Sami was presented the UA All-American jersey by her teammates and Coach Tina Kinkead during a senior class meeting via Zoom on October 30, 2020.
“This is an incredible achievement,” says Tina Kinkead, head volleyball coach. “Sami is more than deserving of the invitation to play with and against the other top volleyball players in the country. She is one of the top two recruits in the nation because she is the total package. Sami excels both physically and mentally. She is a top serve-receive passer and absolutely dominates the net. Sami has the unique ability to bring calm to chaos. She is known for her words of wisdom in crucial moments. I look forward to seeing Sami’s volleyball future.”
The Under Armour All-America Volleyball Match award began in 2008. It features top seniors who have received some recognition for outstanding competition in volleyball. Brian Cummings, Under Armour vice president North America sales, comments that “Under Armour prides itself on being the leader in providing opportunities to athletes of all ages and skill development,” and the match “reinforces our commitment to celebrating youth sports and our focus on helping the next generation of elite performers succeed together in all areas of play.”
Sami will play volleyball at Stanford next fall.
